Art Auction and Giveaway

There is a Charity Auction Event being hosted by the Inspiration Avenue Etsy Team. The Art Auction will take place March 7th-14th. There will be art from all over the globe. There will be jewelry, photographs, mixed-media, paintings, etc, to bid on. The event is to benefit Angel Faces, a wonderful retreat for adolescent girls (11-19 yrs) with facial disfigurements. These young ladies get to meet up for a week and go through art therapy, group therapy, one-on-one therapy and learn how to respond to the general public when someone makes a comment about how they look a little different. They also learn how to apply makeup so that their scars are not so evident. These young ladies walk away with a bit more confidence, a whole lot of healing and the proper tools to get them where they want to be. It is a fabulous program! These girls get to be themselves without any worry that someone will judge them, for one whole week. It is a major self esteem booster and a place that will touch them emotionally for the rest of their lives.

1915 Holmes School Athletic Club~ Free VIntage Image~ Giveaway

I had to laugh, well the whole family did when we saw this fantastic photo of my husband's grandmother. This is the athletic club in  1915. She is the one in the center row, near center with the gigantic bow on her head. Can you imagine running anywhere in that thing? It looks like it would keep your head back, doesn't it? Too funny. Look at the girl in the very back, near center's last or nickname. Poor dear. Pillow, really? This image has been written over pretty good and is dingy but if you'd like to have it for your artwork, just click on it  and it will appear larger then right click and save. All that I ask is that you not sell the image alone, you are free to use it at will in all of your art work for sale or not. Hope you had a good laugh. Enjoy your Saturday!

Scrappy the YoYo Clown and a Giveaway

I found this fabulous site that has all sorts of fun and inspiring ideas for those whom like to sew or just create, with no sewing. They have lots of patterns and their site is so fun to browse through. You should have a peek. It's called Indigo Junction
Imagine my surprise when I opened my email this morning and saw "Scrappy the YoYo Clown". My grandmother made me one of these when I was born and I had it until I was 13, when we lost everything. It brought tears to my eyes when I saw it this morning. I loved that clown. My grandmother died several years ago and I had wanted to ask her how she had made it. This one's face is even the same. Mine didn't have bells for it's feet and hands, it had yarn pom poms. I imagine for safety reasons.
