Bling!

I was on the hunt for some vintage earrings. Not to wear; but to use as magnets for some new magnetic photo display boards I am making. I wanted some bling. Well I found a boat load of vintage earrings in an antique shop but my oh my were they expensive. So I went to the fabric store and looked through the fancy buttons there and they were even more. $5.99 for one button! What? So feeling defeated I went to the counter to have my fabrics cut and while waiting  I noticed a basket full of buttons marked down. Well, these beauties were in there for $1.98. Yay!! Aren't they so pretty and sparkly?. I clipped off their backs, filed them down and used some epoxy to attach them to magnets. Voila I have bling for not too much cha-ching. Okay, I couldn't help myself. Corny, I know. What can I say? So there you have it. Pretty magnets on the cheap. Buttons, Earrings, game pieces, small toys, etc can be used to spiff up your magnets.

  6. HEY! That is a great idea! I have some vintage earrings of my MIL and I can't bear to part with. Magnets would be a perfect solution. Thanks!

  7. Cool idea! I"ve got a big package of fancy buttons that I picked up at a flea market. Some are too big for dolls, but they would make great magnets. Thanks for sharing the idea!

  8. What a great idea! I have lots of old earrings and such that I would never, ever wear anymore and some that are just falling apart -- I love the idea of doing something different with them. Love the bling! Have a happy day :) Tammy
