Beauty in the simplest of things

Do you ever look at a common every day object and see beauty? I often look at something ordinary and see something beautiful about it. It may be the shape, the colors, the wood grain, or a shadow . Here is an example. This is a glimpse of my hamper lid. It is black iron and during certain parts of the day the light causes a wonderful shadow play on the wall behind it. I love the swirls and the varying shades of the shadows. I am reminded of the many decorative gates on homes in San Francisco, California. Many of the homes had either gated courtyards or gated entries. You see a lot of iron gates in the old South, as well. Charleston, SC for instance is made up of very elegant homes with lavish gardens surrounded with decorative fencing and gates.

So see, my hamper takes me to the opposite sides of our country every day. ;D To 2 of my favorite vacation spots. I challenge you to look be still and take in the beauty around you.

  1. I'm with ya! I love to find beauty in everyday things. Supposedly this is one of the good things that comes with being too sensitive! Immediately when I saw this post, I knew I should direct you to my husband's blog project. Just take a look, I think you'll like...

  3. Hi Tammy
Thanks for the reminder. I love those gates too that you mentioned. I love wood and often look at the many natural wood things I have in my home like my hutch, mirror and staircase. I wonder about the trees that they were made out of. Whereabouts in the world did they grow and what did they look like? I think about how they were beautiful as trees then and how they are still beautiful but in a totally different way.

  4. Tammy,
I find beauty in simple things, unexpected things too! Sometimes a window with frost on it, sometimes a flower petal in the grass......it is something how we are blessed to see these things!!!!
By the way, tell Chance that Rufio wishes he could come from a play date, but for now, just share a scratch on Chance's ear for us! :0)

  6. This post is so wonderful. Too often we miss the everyday beauty in our lives. I love your photo and all the memories it envokes for you. I lived in Charleston, SC for 14 years and it is truly an awe inspiring place. Such beauty and history all in one place. I went to college there, I was married there and I had my first baby there. It is magical to me. Thank you for reminding ME of everyday beauty. Love, Jamie

  10. You are one of the few blogs that I have ventured further into. This is probably because I have visited less than 200 blogs in the Giveaway and there are over 700 entries by now. Quite an undertaking.

I just wanted to share with you that I am always seeing beauty and patterns in simple things. I believe it started years ago when I would lay on the grass in local parks and spend hours finding pictures in the clouds.
